WHAT:

The 2012 CHET Dream Big! Competition, sponsored by the State of Connecticut Treasurer's Office, TIAA-CREF Tuition Financing, Inc. and CHET, is a drawing and essay contest. Parents of Connecticut K-5 students enter their children and children express themselves creatively with a chance to win prizes.

WHY:

To encourage families to start thinking about how higher education may help their children realize their dreams and make a difference in the world, and to promote the importance of saving for college early through a CHET direct-sold account.

WHO:

Parents enter Connecticut students in grades K-5 (or equivalent, if homeschooled).

WHEN:

The contest will run from January 30 through March 30, 2012. (All drawing and essay entries must be postmarked by March 30, 2012 and received by April 10, 2012, sent to: CHET Dream Big! Competition, P.O. Box 271455, West Hartford, CT 06127-1455)

HOW:

Entries should be submitted in the following categories:

DRAWING: Grades K-3: An original drawing, illustrating, "What do I want to do after I go to college?"

ESSAY: Grades 4-5: An original essay responding to the question, "How will I change the world after I go to college?"

Entries must include: 1) a completed Official Registration/Entry Form; 2) original work (may be submitted on an Official Registration/Entry Form or stapled to the form itself on a similarly sized (8.5" x 11") piece of paper); and, 3) Signature by parents or legal guardians with all sections completed. Entries will not be returned.

Deadline: Entries must be postmarked by March 30, 2012 and received by April 10, 2012.

PRIZES:

$300 CHET DIRECT-SOLD ACCOUNTS will be awarded to a maximum of 96 County winners—one boy and one girl from each grade, from each of Connecticut's eight counties. (CHET accounts are presented to the parent or legal guardian of the County winners.)

All teachers who have at least two students who submit CHET Dream Big! Official Entry Forms will receive a $50 gift card for school supplies.

JUDGING:

A panel of artists, writers and representatives from TIAA-CREF Tuition Financing, Inc. and the Connecticut Treasurer's Office will select the 96 County winners.

RECOGNITION:

All of the winners will have their name, grade, county, school and winning work displayed on www.chetdreambig.com and will be invited to an award ceremony.
